Love and Communication in Intimate Relationships Constructive Tactics

Communication, among other factors, has been cited as an important criterion to successful and satisfying relationships. However, it can sometimes be difficult (as we have seen) to discuss intimate issues with a lover. Let’s assume your friend has come to you upset and tells you her partner and her partner got in an argument the past evening about their relationship, and it ended with her partner exclaiming “you always want to make love in the same old boring way.” Based on what you know about Gottman’s communication tactics, how would you explain to your friend that this is a destructive tactic?
