write response to the following :
One of the case studies that I enjoyed the most was the Indigenous Language Revitalization Program at the University of Victoria where the main young narrator Mentiye explains how her grandfather was afraid of losing his native language so he started to gathered up with people who spoke his native language fluently. It was amazing to learn how an almost moribund, extinct native language was able to come alive again through the enormous contributions of Mentiye, which made it posible. As Mentiye points out, “at the end of this coming year we’ll have twelve certified language teachers, it happened.” Something that she mentioned that caught my eye is how language gives you something to be proud of— I completely agree with her statements, as without language, the culture and ethnic pride in one’s own identity formation dies as well. Language is the most universal component that is needed to express our views about the world. Being able to successfully bring a moribund language back to life, brings back the culture that defines that language. I find that is extremely important, specially for the young children who haven’t experienced a overall background of where their generation came from, and that is the whole point of this case study— to teach the younger generation something to be proud of.
Please describe the four case studies (what you viewed/read) and give a comment or two about what the case studies led you to you think about. There are no right or wrong answers to this — I am interested in a brief description and then your response/reaction. One full paragraph is about the length that I am looking for here. Thank you!
